Monday 15th September 5 week american road trip
We are well excited and all packed ready for our flight tomorrow morning. However packing has been a bit of a challenge! the helmets and all our biking gear has filled one case and Pams took up most of the other case with her essentials so it looks like we’ll be doing a lot of sink washing on this trip.
Tuesday 16th September 5 week american road trip
Had a great flight and after some mix up at reception saying our reservation had been cancelled and a few phone calls to booking.com we finally checked into our 20th floor apartment at Signature MGM studios we tried out the pool before doing a quick shop for some beer and wine we decided to walk to the supermarket as it was just over a block away. Most hotels seem to be linked to each other underground via a maze of shops and casino’s which must also be under some of the main roads we seemed to have walked for ages and eventually came out onto the strip facing New York.
The plan now is to have an early night ready for a full day site seeing tomorrow.
Wednesday 17th September 5 week american road trip
Had a full day site seeing with the help of the Hop On Hop Off Tour Bus, you would struggle to walk the length of the strip in this heat and it was definitely a better option. Being high rollers we had to do the High Roller Observation Wheel which was well worth the money then it was onto Treasure island for lunch and a nice cold beer. We only had a Nacho starter to share between us and when it came it was ginormous so definitely glad we didn’t order a main course as well. We finished off at Harley Davidson for a mooch round and was surprised Pam didn’t buy anything which pleased me when I’d seen the prices.
Thursday 18th September 5 week american road trip
Well what do they say “ Best laid plans go to waste” well mine certainly have!. We arrived at eagle rider to pick up my Electra Glide to be told it was discontinued so gave me an ultra glide not to worry. So set about putting the memory stick in to find nothing loaded up even with the help from the eagle rider chap nothing happened not to worry. Asked him to enable Apple CarPlay and thought sod eating up my data allowance only to be told it doesn’t have it ( no wonder I bought the Honda Goldwing)However it did have GPS and managed to program in Hoover Dam so off we set. Yesterday the temperatures were souring but not today. We set off in what felt like a hurricane and Pam truly felt she was going to be blown off the bike and on the way back guess what ?We rode through a monsoon and got back to the apartment like a pair of drowned rats. We’re off to Death Valley tomorrow so hopefully we will get better weather 😎
Friday 19th September 5 week american road trip
We are both pleased to have left Las Vegas as it’s not really our cup of tea but it is a good start and end point for our adventure. We’ve had a really nice 155 mile ride to the centre of Death Valley, even though the temperatures were up to 35 degrees. We have checked into Stovepipe village hotel and been enjoying it’s facilitiesThe Harley Satnav is ok for point A to B but unable to add waypoints. It will do possibly upto San Francisco then I’ll use my TomTom so alls good.Death Valley FactsLargest national park in USA also the hottest, driest and lowest being 86M below sea level. It had 1/2” of rain yesterday which is a 1/4 of its yearly total and closured some roads.

Saturday 20th September 5 week american road trip
We left Death Valley early this morning and have passed through some fabulous scenery with some long straight stretches of road as far as the eye can see. On the 144 mile trip to our hotel in bishop we only passed through two towns, Lone Pine and Big Pine. There was a bonus at Big Pine and treated ourselves to a foot long sub which we ate at a nice rest area on route to the hotel. ( Weather is still very hot )

Sunday 21st September 5 week american road trip
Had a great 175 miles riding north on US398 before taking a couple of Sierra Nevada mountain passes which lead to South Lake Tahoe. The scenery has started to change from vast open spaces to Redwood forests, and think the last few days have been the best roads we have ever ridden. The only downside is that we are that far off the beaten track we haven’t had radio reception since leaving Las Vegas. We are now checked in the best hotel up to date with our own condo with its own private beach for 2 nights
